A new season begins

The greens are open for 2018. No ordinary opening, either. This year was special, marking the official unveiling of the club’s new deck by major sponsor Murrumbeena Community Bendigo Bank and local state parliamentarian Steve Dimopoulos.

Both Murrumbeena Community Bendigo  Bank and the Victorian Government generously contributed a fistful of money to the construction of the deck and the result is a community asset that will be appreciated for decades.

Custom determined that Steve would roll the jack to declare the greens open and that he did with sufficiently pleasing form to earn himself a place in the side.

Rain hampered play. Mona’s back from hossie. Tommy had 12 sandwiches. Sam and Jimmy are off to Canberra. Bill Neilson video-linked from the Birdsville Races. Peter Casserly sat at the wrong table, but that enabled him to get the goss on Tommy’s sandwich count. Jim Pask was a picture in his finery. Steve Dimopoulos was caught nicking ideas from Peter Casserly. Or did Peter Casserly freely give them?

Opening Of The Green 2018

opening of the green II

Oakleigh Bowling Club cordially invites all members to the Opening of The Green for 2018. Significantly, this day will be the official reveal of our new deck and our major sponsors will be attending on the day to proudly present this beautiful new amenity to the members.

A light lunch will be served followed by social bowls. Remember, it’s a club uniform day!

From the vault

Every so often, we’ll share some pictures hanging in the club that we rarely, if ever, look at. How’s this one? These guys wouldn’t even have known what a Lancaster bomber was, when this picture was taken in 1935. Yet they played on the same ground we play now. Cool dudes, winning like that.

We have a deck coming. It shall be The Mother of All Decks.

To make way for something this big, members clubbed together yesterday in beautiful winter sunshine to paint beams, clear rocks, clear gardens, scoff some very nice Danish pastries and enjoy a well-earned bitters with a BBQ. Thank you all for a brilliant effort.
