It’s The Year of The Pengtastar!

In just two days’ time, we’ll be celebrating the achievements of our bowlers at Oakleigh Bowling Club for the 2018/2019 season. The Pengtastar, sadly, isn’t a real trophy. But it could be! It honours the five (at last count) trophies Ron and Susan Peng will be taking home this year in a stellar season of bowling. On behalf of the tournament committee, Colin Topp kindly offers the following summary of the year that was. Oh, and do scroll down further to see more photos.

CLUB COMPS 2018/19

What a season of club comps we have had from the first round of the singles on 23/10/18 to the final of the Minor Championship on 31/3/19. There have been some outstanding matches played. If you want to see players at their best then give them 4 bowls!

I thought it was the year of the “Pig” but at OBC it has been the year of the “Peng”.

First we had Ronald winning the Men’s Open Singles Final against a first year bowler in John Davis then runner up in the Proportional Final against the wily veteran Colin Topp and then winning the Minor Championship Final against another first year bowler in Phil Hulbert. Well done Ronald on an outstanding year!

Then we have Susan Peng winning the Mixed Pair’s Final with Les West against Eileen Kearney and Damian Carr. Susan and Joyce Watts were runners up in the Club Pair’s Final against Les West and Colin Topp.

Joyce Watts won the Ladies Singles Final against Heather Topp for the 4th time. Outstanding!

Congratulations to all winners and runners up on your successful season. A big thank you to all those that entered the various comps and had a go, they comps can’t be run without your participation.

A loyal group of supporters came to all the matches and showed their appreciation. Many drinks were drunk and many sausages were sunk. Everyone got into the spirit of the game. Can Tommy please sit down and not move around on the bank! Sorry Ronny.

Looking forward to Next Year!!!
